Lightning is an electric spark discharge occurring between two charged clouds. The electric spark may either be extremely large or small depending on the quantity of charge on the clouds. When lightning occurs, it produces a flash of bright light then a very loud sound follows.

The Process in which a Lightning occurs
Lightning is static electricity, it occurs during a storm. When a strong wind moves in the clouds, the clouds also move along with it and their movement makes them rub against each other. This makes them get charged and an electric spark discharge occurs in between them or it gets discharged to the ground. The channel of a lightning flash is made up of negative electricity and its temperature is believed to reach 28,000 degrees Celsius.
Lightning Protection
When I talk of protection obviously that means lightning is dangerous. It can electrocute people and livestock, cause forest fire and damage buildings. Lightning often strikes tall objects such as church steeples and tall trees. It easily get attracted to the highest point projecting above the ground. Having acquired this knowledge, a lightning rod, well insulated, can help us safely conduct this atmospheric electricity to the ground.
